The recent announcement from Segway® Inc. about plans to cease production of the flagship Segway® Personal Transporter signifies a global shift in consumer preferences in the personal mobility market. But it doesn’t mean the end, according to Segway® Queensland’s Brett Walton. Instead, Walton says “it marks the beginning of a new chapter.”
Since 2008, Segway® Queensland, operated at Burleigh Heads, has provided outstanding support and service to the many thousands of Australian Segway® owners and operators. “We want to assure our existing and potential customers that we remain committed to the Segway® brand in Australia, providing outstanding support and customer care”, said Mr Walton.
“Our market research indicates that the Segway® PTs are a popular choice for many businesses including tourist operators, security, policing, facility managers and distribution/fulfilment centres” Mr Walton said. “We have a fleet of Segway® PTs available for short term or long term rental for use in these commercial markets.”
Like many businesses, Mr Walton used the Covid-19 experience to assess new opportunities. “Covid-19 presented us with a chance to look closely at the Australian market and investigate areas of growth and diversification in commercial markets.” While Mr Walton was surprised by the sudden US announcement, he believes there is room for optimism. “Markets evolve and develop, so we see this as a shift towards the next chapter, while remaining there to support our existing customer base.”
